Go with your love to the fields | New works by Christen Yates
This line, taken from Wendell Berry’s poem, Manifesto: Mad Farmer Liberation Front, reminds us of the need, especially amidst the insanity in our world, to practice radical rest within our landscapes. The loves we bring along could be people, present or past, but also those loves and longings buried deep within. These paintings are micro-immersions in the surrounding landscapes from varying vantages – the sky, a car, up close and personal. They situate us in those hesitations of the figurative that shape and frame our sense of place, blurring our internal and external edges of vision. These are moments that can feel unfinished, but can also root us in exchanges of wonder.
